Bringing our Kukkiwon family together!
The United World Taekwondo Association is pleased to provide operations for the 2019 California Kukkiwon Hanmadang Festival, hosted by Grand Master Jong Hwan Lee and supported by the WTMU. This is going to be the premier Taekwondo event on the West Coast in 2019. On this website you will find a general overview of the event, as well as registration for all events and referee registration as well.
The California Kukkiwon Hanmadang is a festival that is open to all Taekwondo students, from the very beginning levels through the highest ranked black belts. It is an event where the Taekwondo family comes together in the spirit of competition, and lets practitioners of the art of Taekwondo demonstrate their poomsae and breaking skills. UWTA will also be conducting point sparring for it's members in the second gymnasium.
The California Kukkiwon Hanmadang is designed as a festival and is not just for individual martial artists in single events, but is also a great pair and team poomsae event as well, and we hope to see many wonderful demonstrations of skill, power, speed, rhythm and amazing breaking displays.We are excited to see all who will compete and wish everyone who competes good luck!
GENERAL INFORMATION
Below you will find a general overview of the California Kukkiwon Hanmadang. The information you see should help you understand the tournament and how it will be conducted. These are just general guidelines and may be changed without notice, but you can print them out for your convenience. Qualification
Taekwondo practitioners - all ranks including White Belt, who have trained and understand the California Kukkiwon Hanmadang competition rules. Recognized poomsae will be the TaeGeuk Poomsae.

Color Belts - White V-neck Uniform

Black Belts - Black V-neck uniform may be worn only if you are a Black Belt.

UWTA Point Sparring - UWTA approved point sparring gear. Gear must be foam dipped and in good repair. No Tape!

Awards
There will be one 1st, one 2nd, and two 3rd winners for individual poomsae, sparring and board breaking.

For breaking, there is an additional board fee. Competitors must puchase composite boards at the California Kukkiwon Hanmadang. Boards can be purchased for $3.00 ea

A team contest consists of males, females, or mixed gender (males & females). The ratio of males to females is not specified. There has to be at least one female on the team. To register your Demonstration team, please go to the Demonstration Teams tab and register.

JUDGING OPPORTUNITIES
All referees participating at the California Kukkiwon Hanmadang will receive an Official Referee Polo, Donuts, Coffee, Lunch, Snacks and Refreshments. In addition, the first 25 Hanmadang judges that register will receive a $100 stipend and a letter of appreciation from the Kukkiwon.

pOOMSAE AND SPARRING
Our Poomsae events will create multiple opportunities for our competitors to demonstrate their form techniques. The Poomsae events will have individual, pair (team of 2) and team (team of 3-5) competitions. It is our hope that all black belts and color belts from each school will compete.
​Within our Black Belt Divisions we will also have divisions where cash prizes will be awarded Cash prizes will be awarded as follows:

Male/Female Power Breaking
In addition to our Poomsae events, our Sparring events will be spectacular displays of our competitors training. Sparring competition comes out of the techniques we learn in Poomsae, and are a fluid and beautiful demonstration of how those moves are used purposefully and practically in a self defense situation. ​​

You may use foam dipped head, hand and foot gear as well as a hogul depending on your division. All gear must be in good repair. No tape!

Board breaking is open to individuals or groups. The following types of breaking targets may be changed depending on the situation of the event. Approved breaking targets are as follows.
1. Knife hand power breaking : Composite boards as breaking targets.
2. Fist power breaking : Composite boards as breaking targets.
3. Foot power breaking : Composite boards as breaking targets.
4. Back whip kick breaking : Composite boards and assembly materials as breaking targets.
5. All-round breaking : Composite boards as breaking targets.
6. Record Contest : Composite boards as breaking targets.
7. Team competition : Composite boards and other breaking targets (ball, apple, balloon, etc.) are allowed as breaking targets.
* The Hanmadang Organization Committee will not supply any other targets other than those stated above. Contestants who wish to use extra breaking targets must have them approved by the Committee. Attributes of the targets, such as size, quality, strength, and more will be specified in accordance with the additional detailed operation rule of breaking targets.
Breaking Board Holder
Fist power breaking, knife hand power breaking, foot power breaking, back whip kick breaking, speed breaking, high jump breaking, and long jump breaking will be performed with breaking board holders manufactured in accordance with preset sizes and shapes.
Awards
Awards will be distributed based on the results of the contest/competition by event and division. However, types and details of awards may be changed depending on the situation of the event.
1 Award types - Each event has one first place (one team), one second place (one team), and two third place (two teams).
2 Award details:
A. Individual/Pair
First place (1 person) : Certificate with a gold medal
Second place (1 person) : Certificate with a silver medal
Third place (2 people) : Certificate with a bronze medal
B. Group
First place (1 team) : Certificate (team, individual) and a gold medal (individual)
Second place (1 team) : Certificate (team, individual) and a silver medal (individual)
Third place (2 teams) : Certificate (team, individual) and a bronze medal (individual)
DEMONSTRATION TEAMS
Demonstration teams embody all of the elements of Taekwondo; power, grace, beauty, synchronicity, sportsmanship and camaraderie. Demonstration teams at the California Kukkiwon Hanmadang, will consist of a minimum of 8 individuals from the same Dojang. Together, the team will perform their routine against other demonstration teams.
